Rio Aubry Taylor was one of our contributors on I Was A Teenage Gargoyle, and he’s releasing a pack of his JETTY and TABE zines at MOCCA! I think the TABE collection is especially rad - it’s an assortment of 10 of Rio’s zines, and some are folded in really neat ways.

Hullo there,

Unveiling a new project that my husband Paul and I have been working on this last month. The Stolen Lovelight.

It’s about a young woman named Arisia Randir who is stuck in the worst relationship of her life. To escape, she pays for her own kidnapping. Things seem to be going according to plan until she wakes up and discovers that she is all alone on the Brochet Swimmer, the cargo ship that was her means of escape. As she begins to explore the ship, she hears her name called over the intercom.

My name is Shing, and I run Sawdust Press. The recent anthology I published, called I Was A Teenage Gargoyle, which is a musing on early internet fandom, has a large majority of women contributors.

My own (sculpted!)webcomic is at Marlowe the Monster (http://marlowethemonster.com).

Another project I’m working on(writing) is called Marie and Jeanne, which is more or less a road trip friendship story, except with Joan of Arc and a friend from her hometown of Domremy, France. All art is by my old friend James Neish, who draws the most beautiful, amazing, diverse, perfectly proportional, women.

I’ve learned a lot doing this anthology, and there are some things I would definitely change in future work.

The one thing I definitely stand by though, is this list of contributors. They’ve all brought something unique and special in their experiences to this anthology and I love them for it.

I am incredibly excited to officially announce our first comic that will be released in “issue” format, both in print and digitally.

Marie and Jeanne #1 starts a story about two extraordinary girls from Domremy, France in the 15th century. One of them is Joan of Arc. It will be a story about her, of course, and The Siege of Orléans, and ultimately, her death and sentencing - but along the way, it’s mostly just a story about friendship and trust.

The most exciting part of it for me is that it is illustrated by the mindblowingly good artist James Neish, who I’m proud to have known for a really long time(since 5th grade), and one of the two people I first forayed into the comics world with when I was 15(so long ago!). He was the best artist I’d ever met when I was 10, and he played a significant part in instilling a permanent love of fantasy and comics and other assorted nerdy things in me. We’ve grown up and a bit wiser now(well, he is, I’m still a dumbass), but I’m still writing and he’s still illustrating, and I am honored to have been able to hire him to partner with me on this project.

So, check out the preview pages and look out for Marie and Jeanne #1, coming out in March 2012!

Preview pages from Marie and Jeanne, Volume 1.

Marie and Jeanne is a story about two girls from a small village called Domremy that go on a life changing adventure. One of them is Joan of Arc.

I’m beyond excited to be working on this project because it means that I’m working with my super old friend James again. He was the most talented artist I’d ever known when I was in 5th grade, and he still holds that title. He, with another friend, Stef, were the first two people I’d ever worked on a comic project with! I’ll scan those pages sometime. We haven’t seen each other in person in over a decade (we met at an international school when we both lived in the Philippines), but we’re working together again on this little story and I AM SO HAPPY.
